Key purpose of this role
To provide expert psychological services to children, adolescents, young adults and their families through the application of the principles of evidence based best practice, education, leadership and case management in a collaborative clinical environment. Providing client-centered, culturally relevant, trauma-informed therapy with neurodiverse and neurotypical clientele. Alignment with the core values, mission, and community service orientation at Little Oaks Psychology.
Key responsibilities of this position: Clinical Practice
Develop and implement counselling and intervention programs to assist clients in determining goals and means of attaining them.
Collaborate to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate client care.
Interview clients, document clinical notes and formulations, and assess problems.
Experience working with Indigenous clients is an asset.
An interest in working with families, parents, and children is essential
Deliver evidenced-based psychological counselling services to persons with social, cognitive, emotional, developmental, learning, behavioural diversity, as well as mild to moderate mental health disorders in accordance with the identified needs of the client, observing mental health and professional ethical standards.
Utilizing a combination of behaviourism, CBT, ACT, psychoeducation, family systems, and client centred psychodynamic approaches. If experienced with therapeutic play, play based interventions are encouraged. Group therapy and community workshops are possible opportunities.
Liaise with community agencies or partners, and identify additional or alternative services and provide referrals.
Understanding of neurodiversity and learning differences within the treatment model.
Apply increasingly independent clinical judgement to a more complex clinical caseload under the clinical practice supervision or professional guidance of a more senior clinician.
Conduct counselling and treatment focused assessment to assess emotional presentations. Integrate this information in a well-formulated treatment plan with goals and outcomes identified.
Provision of parent education and support as needed.
Consideration of the family context and systems approach to child and youth counselling.
Maintaining client records stored confidentially in accordance with privacy regulations and College standards of practice.
Completion of directed mental health training/professional development as needed and on a yearly basis.
Utilizes non-billable time efficiently to complete all case related research, documentation, administrative demands, and other practice needs.
Communication / Team Participation
Work cooperatively and effectively within the multidisciplinary and common disciplinary care team (i.e., Psychologists, Learning Behaviour Specialists, Coaches, Counsellors, Speech Language Pathologists) in the management of individual clients to promote positive client outcomes.
Establish and strengthen relationships with GPs, paediatricians, school-teams, and other professionals in and around the workplace to continue to maintain and build referral base.
Maintain up to date clinical records in accordance with documentation standards in addition to maintaining current data requirements of the practice.
Participate in professional development activities including supervision, performance appraisal and development and practice Team Meetings.
Track billable hours and maintain a balanced calendar with the support of the administrative team.
Contractors are required to attend monthly team meetings and quarterly staff meetings.
Consultation meetings held biweekly enable collegial consultation and professional growth and development.
Actively assist with the initiation, development, implementation and facilitation of practice Marketing Initiatives and other practice projects (e.g., community workshops, public talks, social media outreach).
Provide professional guidance and consultation to families and carers, multidisciplinary professionals and schools about client’s health and development where appropriate.
Leadership / Work Unit Management
Contribute to the support, peer supervision and professional development of all staff, training of students and orientation of new staff that enhance the delivery of Psychology services within the team and the clinic as a whole.
Actively participate in initiating, developing, and implementing quality and service improvement processes and participate in recording service data including being able to use outcome measures to evaluate effectiveness of practice and to use when setting and establishing priorities for intervention both client focused and recovery based principles in line with best practice standards.

Minimum 10 hours per week direct clinical hours. Billable hours may include other activities as discussed with the clinic director (e.g., community workshops, group therapy).
Monitors caseload and proactive about opportunities to take on clients, services, and outreach.

Qualifications
Possession of a Masters’ Degree or PhD in Counselling or School & Child Psychology from a recognised post-secondary institution.
Full Registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CPA) in good standing preferred.
Provisional Registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CPA) in good standing will be considered (may include provisional supervision where needed).
Professional Liability Insurance (not less than 10 mil per claim) and Public Liability Insurance (not less than 20 mil per claim) required.
Current Intervention Record Check (IRC) and Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check.

Demonstrated capacity in planning and provision of psychological, case management, and rehabilitative services using an evidenced-based approach.
Demonstrated ability to initiate, plan, and evaluate service improvement initiatives and provide support/supervision to peers, subordinate personnel and students.
Able to build and maintain strong relationships, open communication and a positive environment within a multidisciplinary team, actively contributing to the learning and development of others
